I'm considering hosting a werewolf game here. The gameplay is going to be a little different that how it's usually done here. You wouldn't mind if I go ahead and make the thread, right?

I would love it, as long as you can keep it better organized than Kirbyman's, which practically died as it started. >_<
Thing is, there're few people who'd play here... there's another site where there's a Werewolf Group that I'm a part of. Maybe I could advertise a bit there a get a few people to come play [the forum needs more activity too...]

Small might be better since this is the first werewolf I hosted in a while. And of this kind. lol The one thing is, I can't decided on the theme for the game. I'm thinking about either Xaolin Showdown or Avatar. Hmmm...

I'm more familiar with Avatar.
And on an ironic side-note, in the group I noted a above, Kikyo and I are playing in a Werewolf based off of TWEWY. I'll send you the link if you want. xD

And if you do host, I'd expect Bubbz, Kikyo, Rupture, and I to play... Regis and Fallen if you pester them enough, and Chaos if he feels like it.
Maybe I can convince Meeth to play too... 0:

I've been playing around with the idea of a mafia/werewolf with an asylum twist on it. Thoughts on this?

[And, on the assumption that enough people would like to play it but fear it interfering with normal Mafiar and making it a flop again, I'd probably to host it after Kikyo's werewolf after Mafiar after the Avatar Werewolf.]

This is true! For Mafiar, I thought it would sort of work for the mafia to be vengeful hospital staff, but, see, I've found that a big problem when writing for mafia in general is that you'd generally assume that the people would know who the detective is, who the vigilante is, etc. This can also go for werewolf, too, if you have those special roles (i.e., you would think that it would be obvious who doctor is). Point being, even if I did hospital Mafia -- as fun as I think it would be to write storyboards for -- it would be hard to explain why no one knows who is hospital staff and who isn't.

Unless they were all disguised and only administered drugs during the night, but even then -- I don't know, it could actually work out in a lot of ways now that I think about it.

Long post is long.

Point being, I do think it would work better with Werewolf, because there aren't many special roles, but doing it with Mafia would be more fun from a host's point of view. I don't know. That's why I want opinions. :x

The Mafia seems more fun.
Suggestions:
Have it as patients who have woken up from coma.
Everyone claims to have woken up
They find themselves in an abandoned hospital.
Everyone is a patient or is acting sick.
There are some who are insane and are killing people off one by one.
Supplies are limited, so they have to kill one each night in order to use their share of food and pills.
Items could be like:
Death syringe - Kills one patient
Syringe of Life - Brings one back from dead
Life Support - Keeps you alive for one extra turn if you find the player with The Life Pills and they are willing to give it to you.

Thats all i got.

I did like traveling cat's inclusion of items. It's original and pretty fun, and we should definitely explore different possibilities of those.

Slightly unrelated to the intention of the topic, but as a coder and a text-based game lover I have also been playing around with the idea of turning the mafia game [and/or this asylum game] into a text-based game.

If so, would anyone other than myself enjoy it?

Text-based games are a type of game generally played on the computer that are fully text and rely solely on the text that the coder has decided to type and the objects/events/people/etc. they have decided to include. You type in your commands when you want to interact with things.

FOR INSTANCE.
"There is a flashlight on the desk."
pickup flashlight
"You have picked up the flashlight."
use flashlight
"Nothing happens. It would appear the flashlight has run out of batteries."

And so on and so forth, and it works very much the same way with conversations with others, where it's very open-ended. A text-based game based on one of these forum games interests me because they're text-based games as they are, but they're played with other people instead of just scripted events. I just want to explore the possibilities of the games more.

I think I understand the gist of what you mean Meeps. One IRC chatroom I've been to uses a bot to moderate the game and everyone makes action choices through PMs (except for votes, that's in the main chat). However, it was very basic, with only werewolf and seer roles (that I saw anyway).

For your asylum mafia/werewolf, I would suggest disguises but you're very heavy on storyboards here, and that would be very tricky to incorporate.

The forum I hang out includes items with the werewolf games, and they've been a lot of fun for mixing things up. They're also handy tool for Hosts in case things get too one-sided. :wink:
